As we start the upcoming 2014-15 school year,
our PTO would like to raise
$12,000
for the purchase of
40 Chromebooks
What exactly can our students to with a Chromebook?
Students use Chromebooks like a laptop
for web-based activities.
There are 3 main uses at Donges Bay
(and throughout the district) for the Chromebooks:
1) CONCEPTUA MATH
There is a portion of our math curriculum that utilizes a web-based program to help teach fractions. This is usually a four- week unit and does require the use of an Internet capable device. For the coming year, we would like to have two grade levels do conceptua math simultaneously (160-200 students). Donges Bay currently has 120 chromebooks so 40 more books would bring us to 160.
2) TYPING PALS ONLINE
This is the program that we use to teach keyboarding in 2nd through 5th grade. Again, this is a web-based program and does require an internet capable device.
3) MAP AND SMARTERBALANCE TESTING
All students use the Chromebooks to take these tests.
The beauty of the Chromebook is the relatively inexpensive price
(~$300 depending upon the model) for an internet capable device.
They are not as expensive as a MacBook (which costs ~$1200), but the chromebooks still meet the needs of our students.
